God’s laws and commands are the universal and
immutable standard of conduct, or benchmark, for all mankind and all nations;
past, present, and future. With that in
mind, progressivism is an invalid ideology according to the Bible.
Therefore, any nation’s judicial system
should be based on adherence to God’s laws.
It will be seen that man’s natural
inclinations are in many instances contrary to God’s standard. Nonetheless, conscience should alert one to
the presence of God.
“…for when
Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law…are a law
to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their
conscience also bearing witness…” Romans 2:14-15
Paul admitted there were aspects of God’s
law that were previously unknown to him, i.e. not revealed through conscience.
“…I would
not have known sin except through the law.
For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, ‘You
shall not covet.’” Romans 7:7b
God, in His transparency, provided His law
to alert all mankind to His required standard of holiness.
“…for by
the law is the knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:20b
But no man was able to obey God’s law in
full.
“…for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” Romans 3:23
Later in his letter to the Galatians, Paul
confirmed man’s inability to abide by the whole law.
“…knowing that a man is not justified by the
works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ…for by the works of the law no
flesh shall be justified.” Galatians
2:16
This verse reiterates the basic truth that
no man can completely obey the law; therefore, the vicarious death of the
sinless Christ is the only way to be justified, or found guiltless in the eyes
of God.
God’s law and standard applied to the
individual common man.
“But his
delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and
night. He shall be like a tree planted
by the rivers of water…the ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the
wind drives away.” Psalm 1:2-5
And remember God’s instructions also
applied to the nation’s king.
“Also it
shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself
a copy of this law…and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may
learn to fear the LORD his God and be careful to observe all the words of this
law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren…” Deuteronomy 17:18-20a
The king was to have a copy of the law and
to study it day and night. Knowing the
law would cause the king to fear (respect and honor) the LORD his God.
Furthermore, by studying, understanding,
and observing the law would prevent the king from becoming proud.
And the word ‘all’ is part of the
instruction. There was not to be a
picking and choosing of which parts of the law applied to any given situation.
Remember Paul said everything that
happened to Israel
was to serve as examples for the present age of the church.
How is America doing today with the three
branches of government, i.e. administrative, legislative, and judicial?
Are all executive orders, legislative
actions, and judicial decisions in line with God’s standard of righteousness
and justice?
And even more serious, are there any
executive orders, legislative actions, and judicial decisions that actually
contradict God’s standard?
Or worse yet, are there any actions that
actually protect those who consciously break God’s laws?
We could begin with Roe v. Wade and go on
indefinitely.
Such laws and traditions imposed by the
Pharisees had the affect of nullifying God’s word.
“…making
the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed
down. And many such things you do.” Mark 7:13
It appears that most politicians are
simply ignorant of the reality that they are compromising God’s laws to gain
voter support, and are equally blind to the fact those same laws are the
immutable word of God.
